Becker Credentialing Services provides mental health credentialing and behavioral health credentialing for providers who want to join commercial insurance networks. We manage initial provider credentialing from start to finish: choosing the right payers, completing and submitting payer applications, following up until you're approved, and confirming your effective in-network date. We work with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers, in solo, group, and telehealth practices, in any state.

Our Credentialing Services

Initial Provider Credentialing

We handle the entire application process from start to finish, ensuring submission and management of all necessary documents to achieve in-network status. Additionally, we provide updates on the completion status and the effective in-network date.

Additional Provider Credentialing

For group practices adding new providers. This includes credentialing with up to 10 insurance companies, managing the entire application process, and ensuring in-network status.

Credentialing Maintenance

Credentialing is an ongoing process that requires regular updates and continuous monitoring with insurance companies to ensure that provider information remains accurate and up to date.

Re-Credentialing

We handle the re-credentialing process for providers with up to 10 insurance companies, so your network participation doesn't lapse.

Our 4-Step Credentialing Process

What happens at each stage, and what you get from us.

Onboarding

We work with you to learn about the commercial insurance companies and choose the ones that are best for your specialty, location, and practice goals, and gather your documents and information.

You get: a list of insurance companies to apply to, chosen together with you.

Payer Applications

We obtain each insurer's latest application and complete it on your behalf, accurately and consistently with your CAQH profile and other records.

You get: complete, submitted applications.

Follow-Up

We follow up with each insurance company to confirm receipt, answer requests for more information, and resolve issues before they become delays.

You get: status updates as applications move forward.

Completion

We confirm each approval and send you the details, including your effective in-network date, so you know exactly when you can bill.

You get: approvals and effective dates, ready to bill.

What to Have Ready Before We Start

Insurance companies require these before they'll process a credentialing application. Having them in place is the single biggest factor in avoiding delays.

  • An active, complete, and attested CAQH ProView profile, registered with your practice's legal business name and service address, exactly as they appear on your W-9
  • Your individual NPI (Type 1), plus a group NPI (Type 2) if you bill under a practice
  • Your current, active professional license
  • DEA registration (optional; only if you prescribe controlled substances)
  • Malpractice insurance certificate
  • Board certification, education, and training details
  • Work history (with any gaps explained)
  • Practice tax ID and W-9 for group practices

Your CAQH profile and NPI numbers are set up and maintained by you. Not sure what's missing? Ask us and we'll tell you before we start. See our credentialing FAQs for more on CAQH and NPI numbers.

Why Behavioral Health Providers Choose Becker Credentialing

A specialist, not software

Many credentialing options are software platforms that leave the follow-up to you. We do the work: we complete the applications, chase the insurance companies, and tell you when you're approved.

Focused on mental health

Behavioral health is all we do. We know which commercial networks matter for psychiatry, therapy, and counseling practices, and what they ask for.

Any state, including telehealth

We credential providers in any state, including telehealth practices.

Credentialing and billing together

Once you're in-network, our behavioral health billing team can submit your claims, so nothing falls through the gap between approval and payment.

Credentialing Questions

How long does mental health credentialing take?

It varies by insurance company. Many commercial payers take a few months from a complete application to approval, and some take longer. Complete, accurate applications and consistent follow-up are what keep it moving, which is why we handle both.

Do you work with telehealth practices?

Yes. We credential mental and behavioral health providers with commercial insurance companies in any state, including telehealth practices.

Do you handle Medicare or Medicaid enrollment?

No. We focus on credentialing with commercial insurance companies.
